Lester W. “Dick” Doughty, 96, of Chillicothe passed away on Thursday morning, Nov. 10, 2016 at his residence with his family around him.

Dad was born to Orville and Bessie (Hockenberry) Doughty in Chillicothe on Mar. 28, 1920.  He was united in marriage on Apr. 19, 1941 to Mary E. Bost who preceded him in death in 1978.

Dad was an East End Boy and looked forward to being with them on the 3rd Wednesday in July, every year since 1972.  He was our most senior member of the Sweat Shop Health Club in Frenchtown  Dad worked in the heat of summer and the cold of winter as an ironworker, belonging to the Ironworkers Local 172, Columbus, OH.  He was a member and Past President of the Southern Ohio Beagle Club.  Dad loved his dogs and going to field trials.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WW II as a Tech 5.  His service to his county was as part of what has been known as the “Greatest Generation”.  Dad was a member of American Legion Post 62, VFW Post 108 and AMVETS 4 in Chillicothe.  He was a member of Scioto Lodge #6, F&AM, Chillicothe York Rite Bodies and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus.

He is survived by his daughters, Patty (Charles) Mattox, Vicky (Greg) Bloomfield, Peggy (Dean) Good, Ruth (Brad) Doughty-Beverly, all of Chillicothe and Paulette (Jon) Story, Syracuse, NY; his sons, Ed (special friend, Mickie) Doughty, Chillicothe, Bill (Chris) Doughty, Frankfort, Lester Ray (Pam) Doughty and Paul (Kelli) Doughty, all of Chillicothe; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, a daughter, Mary Jo, a daughter-in-law, Jane Doughty and sisters, Hazel Johnston, Ginny King, Mary Musgrove and Alpha Porter.

Dad was recently saved and accepted his Lord and Savior through Brother Shane at Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Our family wishes to thank the Adena Hospice for the care and concern during Dad’s illness.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Shane Browning officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Military Rites by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, with a Masonic Service by Scioto Lodge #6, F&AM at 5:00 pm.  In honor of our dad, donations may be made to Honor Flight, P.O.
